How We Approach Asphalt in the Piedmont
Piedmont Asphalt Paving Athens builds and maintains asphalt driveways, parking areas and private lanes in Athens-Clarke County and the surrounding counties: Oconee, Madison, Jackson, Oglethorpe, Barrow, Walton, Morgan and Greene. The work runs from new driveways and gravel-to-asphalt conversions to resurfacing, pothole and edge repair, sealcoating and parking lot striping.
Pavement around Athens sits on hills, and most of those hills are red clay. Clay is firm when dry and slick and weak when soaked, and nearly fifty inches of rain a year gives it plenty of chances to get soaked. A slope sends water racing down a driveway and undercutting its edges. So every job here starts with two questions: what is the ground like under the asphalt, and where does the water go?
At the estimate we walk the whole area, measure it, look for soft spots and washed-out edges, check the slope at the garage and at the road, and note whether the driveway meets a county street, a city street or a state route. Each of those has its own permit process for work in the right-of-way, and we tell you up front which one applies.
What you can expect
- A written, itemized quote: removal, grading, stone base depth, compacted asphalt thickness and any drainage work, each priced.
- An honest repair-or-replace call. If patching and sealing will buy you years, we say so.
- Utility locates requested through Georgia 811 before any mechanized digging or grading.
- Paving scheduled for dry ground and workable temperatures, not just an open date on the calendar.
- Changes to the scope put in writing for your approval before the work is done.
