Paving in a Small Town That Keeps Growing
Asphalt paving in Bogart often means new driveways for new homes. Bogart's population rose from 1,034 in 2010 to 1,326 in 2020, a 28.2 percent increase, and Oconee County opened Dove Creek Elementary nearby in 2018 to keep up with families moving in. Most of the city is in Oconee County, with a small part in Clarke County, so the street in front of your house may be maintained by a different government than your neighbor's a few blocks away.
A railroad town's roots
Bogart was first called Osceola and was renamed in 1892, honoring a local railroad agent, to avoid confusion with another Georgia town of the same name. The rail line between Athens and Atlanta came through in the 1890s, and the town was incorporated in 1905. Its early businesses were a bank, a mercantile, cotton gins, gristmills and the depot. Some older homes near the old center have driveways that started as gravel or dirt and were paved later, often thinly.
New construction driveways
On a newly built lot, the soil around the house has often been disturbed and filled. Fill that was not compacted well settles, and a driveway laid on it settles with it. We check the ground before paving, compact or replace soft fill, and build the stone base to a stated depth. If the builder left a gravel drive in place, we evaluate whether it can be part of the base.
Gravel-to-asphalt conversions
Bogart sits at about 820 feet, on rolling ground, and many homes on the edge of town have long gravel drives. Gravel washes into ruts on slopes and has to be regraded and topped up. Converting to asphalt ends that cycle, but only if the grade works and water is routed off the drive. We plan the slope and any culvert crossings before paving.
What to expect on a new driveway
A new Bogart driveway usually takes two to three days on site: one for removal or grading and base, one for paving, and sometimes a day for edges and cleanup. Before any of that, we request utility locates through Georgia 811, because water, gas and fiber lines often run close to new driveways in recently built neighborhoods.
Keeping costs down
If your builder left a decent gravel bed, reusing it can lower the cost. If you are planning other work, such as a patio, a fence or a detached garage, telling us early lets us plan grades so everything drains together, rather than paving now and cutting into it later.
Which government to call
Because Bogart spans two counties and the city has its own government, the right office for a driveway connection depends on the street. We identify whether the road is a city street, an Oconee or Clarke County road, or a state route before any work at the road.

Bogart Questions
Can you pave my new-construction driveway?
Yes. We check the fill around the house, compact or replace soft areas and build a stone base before paving so the driveway does not settle.
My Bogart address is partly in Clarke County. Does that matter?
It can matter for work where the driveway meets the road, because the city, Oconee County, Clarke County or GDOT may maintain it. We check which applies.
Is converting a gravel driveway worth it?
If you are tired of regrading and refilling ruts, usually yes. The existing gravel can sometimes count toward the new base, which helps the cost.
Do you call 811 before digging?
Yes. We request utility locates through Georgia 811 before any mechanized digging or grading.
How wide should my driveway be?
Most single-family driveways are 10 to 12 feet for one lane and 18 to 24 feet for two. GDOT describes a typical residential driveway at a state route as 14 to 16 feet wide. We size yours to how you park.
